Saints in the Medieval Imagination

Published: Friday, February 16, 2024

Dr. Karen Youmans of Oklahoma City University presents "Saints in the Medieval Imagination".

Join us Friday, February 23rd, 6:15pm – 7:30pm CST (Seating at 6:15pm, Lecture starts at 6:30pm) at Norman Public Library East, Community Room, 3051 E Alameda St., Norman, OK 73071.

If you can’t be there in person, the presentation will also be available on Zoom at https://oklahoma.zoom.us/j/91497925617

Beginning with the passions of the early Christian martyrs, the saint’s life was one of the most prolific genres of the medieval period. While sometimes dismissed as formulaic and didactic, this genre proved its malleability and rhetorical power time and again. We’ll discuss the evolution of the saint’s life from late antiquity to the early modern period, considering its broad impact on medieval history and culture and its role in the history of biography.

Due to the closing of the Norman Public Library Central until late spring 2024, the Medieval Fair Free Lecture Series will be at the Norman Public Library East, Community Room, 3051 E Alameda St., Norman, OK 73071.

The Medieval Fair Free Lecture Series is cosponsored by the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies University of Oklahoma.

Come learn more about the middle ages just for the fun of learning! No papers, no test, just interesting information about life long ago.
